Annabel Daou, 2008, Chaos, ink on handmade paper, 24.25 x 24.25 inches

(27.5 x 27.5 inches framed)

Annabel Daou’s work deals with text and language, often employing modes of translation and transliteration. Her small-scale drawings of repeated words and phrases form a sense of place, simultaneously creating and eradicating meaning. Born in Beirut, during the Lebanese Civil War, she moved to New York to attend Barnard College at Columbia University. Recent solo exhibitions include: Sex & Politics at Conduit Gallery, Dallas, TX (2007); a book of hours at Gallery Joe, Philadelphia, PA (2007) and America at Josée Bienvenu gallery, New York (2006). In January 2009, she will have a solo show at the David Winton Bell Gallery located in the List Art Center in Brown University, Providence, RI.
