Ricardo Lanzarini, 2008, Desprendidos IIII ink on paper, 18.5 x 23.5 inches

(29 x 24 inches framed)

Ricardo Lanzarini’s drawings are composed of crowds of tiny figures: frantic little men dressed in extravagant attire swarm around the white pages like a colony of industrious insects. This eccentric cast of characters portrays the frustration of the human condition with a great deal of humor and delicacy. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, he lives and works in New York and Montevideo. Selected exhibitions include: First Encounter Between Two Seas, Bienal Sao Paulo, Valencia, Spain (2007), Bahia, Josée Bienvenu gallery, New York (2007); 29th Annual Pontevedra Biennial, Pontevedra, Spain (2006); Talespinning, The Drawing Center, New York (2004). In February, his work was featured at ARCO in Madrid for a solo project invited by Virginia Perez-Raton. His work was recently in a group exhibition in Mas Art, Barcelona, and in the spring of 2009 his work will be in a group show in Taché Levy Gallery, Brussels.
